Ready to take your handbuilding to the next level? This 4-week course is perfect for those who’ve mastered the basics and are keen to explore more creative and design-focused techniques.
You’ll dive deeper into the artistry of clay, learning how to combine form and surface to create expressive, personal pieces. Through guided projects and playful experimentation, you’ll discover how to bring your own creative voice to life in clay.
What you’ll learn:
Inlay & decorative slips – add colour and depth to your surfaces using refined layering and design techniques.
Sgraffito – carve and reveal bold, graphic lines and patterns for striking visual impact.
Texture & surface exploration – experiment with natural materials, stamps, and tools to create rich tactile finishes.
Handbuilding refinement – strengthen your slab, coil, and pinch techniques for more confident and intentional forms.
Finishing & presentation – refine your work through trimming, slip application, and glaze choices that enhance your designs.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a small collection of beautifully crafted, personally expressive pieces — and a fresh set of tools to continue developing your own clay aesthetic.
Who it’s for:
Perfect for anyone who’s completed a beginner handbuilding course or has some clay experience and wants to explore surface design, decoration, and creative technique.
What’s included:
All materials, slips, and glazes provided. Bring your ideas, curiosity, and willingness to play!
What’s included?
Unlimited clay, tools, glaze and all firing.
What do I need to bring?
An apron and an old tee or towel. Short nails are also essential.
Do you offer make up sessions if I miss a class?
Please double check you can make all dates across the six weeks as we’re unable to offer make up classes.
